For this assignment, I wanted to take a different approach to intelligence by reviewing some of the stranger/sillier definitions of intelligence in "A Collection of Definitions of Intelligence" by Shane Legg & Marcus Hutter. Some suggested things like “Intelligence is what is measured by intelligence tests.” E. Boring [7], or “Ability to adapt oneself adequately to relatively new situations in life.” R. Pinter quoted in [35], or even “. . . the ability to solve hard problems.” M. Minsky [26]. The fact that intelligence is such a poorly defined word made me explore how a card game (Flip 7) might be a system that is intelligent as well. It evokes thought from others, remembers what it did before, adapts to changing environments, and evokes emergent, diverse, and conflicting behaviors throughout the system. This is what led to my learning and questions about intelligence below.
